Emerging ways of doing business powered by maths

A recent Businessweek article is really worth the reading. Poetically untitled "Maths will rock you world", it investigates how some new businesses rely on mathematics to better predict emerging market trends, and customers behavior.

The funny part is the one presenting really gifted maths grads as hot! this may seem shocking as it concludes with their nerdy image in campuses and more generally in people's minds.. But today more and more tech and financial powerhouses are seeking talented mathematicians to fuel up their R&D activities, and optimise the algorithms on wish their businesses rely heavily.

I always have been fascinated by the magic of mathematics, so I'll come back soon with a series of posts to expose the major theories and fields mathematicians ( and computer scientists, as they often rely on maths to do their jobs) are investigating today.
